The Euroscience Open Forum 2006 opens its doors to scientists and the public
New Research. New Technology. New Thinking.
The first lecture of the conference will be given by Nobel laureate in Physics (2005) Professor Dr. Theodor Hдnsch in the Aviation Hall (Luftfahrthalle) of the Deutsches Museum. Professor Hдnsch's speech titled "A passion for precision", focusing on laser-based precision spectroscopy, will be followed by a welcoming reception hosted by Euroscience.
The scientific programme with over 70 plenary lectures, seminars and workshops taking place in the Forum am Deutschen Museum and the Deutsches Museum begins on Sunday, 16 July and ends on Wednesday, 19 July 2006. The public's expectations from European science policy, nuclear energy as a long term alternative, terrorism and its implications for international security, new methods in natural disaster prevention, and ageing as a socio-economic challenge are some of the topics presented and discussed at ESOF2006.
Over 30 research facilities, industry partners, foundations and science organisations selected the ESOF2006 Exhibition as a platform for interactive dialogue and exchange with the public. Daily events such as 'expert chats', presentations and media briefings address professionals and laymen alike. Situated on the Ground Floor of the Forum am Deutschen Museum, the Exhibition is open to everyone.
Young scientists and students as well as the scientists of tomorrow are addressed through the Career Programme and the Outreach Activities respectively.
Featuring, among others, job interview workshops, as well as seminars on mentoring initiatives and career alternatives for scientists, the Career Programme provides attendees with a unique combination of theory and practice. Networking events such as 'Pretzel with the Prof' facilitate interaction and dialogue between established scientists and the new generation of researchers. Registration for the Career Programme is possible onsite at special rates.
The projects and interactive exhibits presented at the ESOF2006 Outreach Activities are designed to stimulate children's innate curiosity about the phenomena that surround them; they can experiment with gravity, build rockets and robots, taste 'molecular food' prepared by an award-winning chef and even examine small living animals through the microscope. The Outreach Activities will be held jointly with the Wissenschaftssommer 2006 (the German national science week) in Munich from the 15th to the 21st of July. Both events are free and open to the public and will take place at the Marienhof square and in the old part of the historic town hall (Altes Rathaus).
